Busy Bees implements a child-centered approach to learning through play. The Busy Bees curriculum draws guidance from the UK Foundation Stage curriculum, which encompasses six areas of learning: personal, social, and emotional; communication, language, and literacy; mathematical development; knowledge and understanding of the world; physical development; and creative development. The curriculum is introduced to the children through a variety of activities. The children are also made aware of the diversity of cultures around them through lessons, stories and songs, and toys available. Various festivals are also highlighted throughout the year.

Language Development

Busy Bees is a bilingual, English/Putonghua kindergarten.  To achieve this, the teachers alternate languages for certain areas such as lessons, story time, and activities each day.  The early years are a crucial time for children to develop their language skills, and this can be said for both first and second language learning. Busy Bees pays particular attention to children's language skills, and emphasis is placed on developing them. This is achieved by giving students frequent opportunities to practice their language skills, continual observation and assessments of individual children's language skills, and teachers and parents working together. We also have a variety of toys and learning resources which focus on language development.

Welcome Children Free play activities.
Circle Time Greet the students and talk about the current theme (focus on phonics, English practice, Putonghua practice, math, or science concepts).
Arts and Craft Children will be split into small groups to work on activities. All children will be given a turn to participate in each activity. Children who have completed the activity may choose book to read in the reading corner.
Snack Time After washing their hands, children have a small snack and a drink. Snack time is a great opportunity for children to sit and talk about events and topics of interest to them. Children are encouraged to be independent and tidy up after themselves.
Outside Play Children have a range of outdoor toys and equipment available to them to develop their physical skills, as well as a water table (during warmer months) and a sandpit. If the weather does not permit outside play, physical movement activities will be conducted indoors.
Music / Drama Time This time is dedicated to activities that encourage a love of music and drama. Children learn songs, actions, dances, and participate in acting out stories.
Story Time Teachers read a story to the children. Children are also given the opportunity to talk about the story.

School Outings

At Busy Bees, we understand that learning does not just happen in the classroom. With this in mind, we organise outings to places of interest around Hong Kong throughout the year. These outings may tie into the project of that month or be chosen because of their suitability to the ages of the children. Some previous school outings are:

We also understand the importance of different cultures and traditions, and celebrate a variety of festivals with the children, such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, Halloween, Christmas, Chinese New Year, Easter, and the Dragon Boat Festival. Each student's birthday is also celebrated as it occurs, with a birthday song and good wishes from their classmates.
