Notes for Parents
Detailed below is a list of what your child will need to bring to Busy Bees everyday:
- a change of clothes
- spare diapers (if they are not yet toilet-trained)
- soft-soled shoes (for indoor use)
- a sun hat (morning class only)
- a bottle of drinking water
- a healthy snack
During the hot weather you should also provide:
- sun cream
- mosquito repellent
General Information
Please dress your child in loose, comfortable clothing. Children will be participating in craft activities, which may be messy. They may also spill their food or drink during snack time, so we encourage students to wear clothes that their parents don't mind them getting dirty.
We encourage parents to send healthy and nutritious snacks for their children.
Please do not give your child any of the following to be consumed at Busy Bees:
- candy/sweets (gummy candies, lollipops, etc.)
- chocolate (biscuits, chocolate-filled cakes, etc.)
- fizzy drinks or drinks in glass bottles
- nuts (including food containing nuts, peanut/nut butter, etc.)
- seafood (or seafood products)
Show and Tell
Show and Tell presentations motivate students to organise their thoughts and speak in complete sentences. It also gives them an opportunity to share their interests and ideas with their classmates. Parents are encouraged to help their child choose an appropriate item to share and practice some simple sentences to share about it. We understand that some children might feel nervous about speaking in front of the class, so teachers will be ready to ask some leading questions and provide encouragement and support. Students can choose whether to do their presentation in English or Putonghua. After the presentation, the rest of the class is free to ask questions. This encourages them to listen attentively, and to get used to using question words (interrogatives) and forming clear questions.
Illness
You should not bring your child to school if he or she has any of the following:
- diarrhoea
- vomiting
- suspicious rash/spots
- a fever
- sinus infection (green mucus)
- serious cough
- any other contagious illness that can be easily spread to other students
If your child becomes unwell at school, you will be contacted and asked to collect them. Please ensure that your child's emergency contact's information is kept up to date. Every effort will be made to keep your child as comfortable as possible until you arrive.
Please ensure that your child has recovered and is no longer symptomatic or contagious before returning them to school.
Medicines
Teachers will only administer medicine to a child if a doctor has prescribed it and the medicine is labelled with the child's name, the name of the medication and the dosage. Please also include a copy of a doctor's note with dosages and times that the medicine needs to be taken.
To prevent accidents, medicines should not be left in your child's bag. Parents must give the medicine to the teachers directly at the beginning of the school day, and collect it when school has finished.
Collecting Your Child from School
Your child's safety is our top priority. When enrolling, you must inform the staff who will be collecting your child from school by completing the Authorised Collector section of the intake form. Under no circumstances will staff allow a child to leave with a person who is not authorised to collect them. If the person who regularly collects your child changes, the details need to be updated by prior notification (in person, by email, or by phoning the school). The same applies if a new person will be collecting your child on a specific day. The school needs their name, phone number and, if possible, a photo to identify them. Please ensure that the contact phone number for your child's carer(s) is kept up to date so that we can call them if there are any changes to pick-up or if they are running late. If there is a last-minute change in pick-up details, please notify us by phone.
Children should be collected from school at 11:30 am for the morning class and 4:00 pm for the afternoon class.
